Harvest Thanksgiving celebrated at St Andrew’s

Readers Mail…

The church was full to overflowing, with the “overspill” being accommodated in the Hall downstairs where the service was relayed and Holy Communion concelebrated.

The Chaplain, the Revd Wendy Hough, welcomed all to the service: regular church members, their friends and guests, and “swallows” and holidaymakers all of whom shared in this joyous occasion.

We were delighted that Bishop Michael, also, travelled to worship with us, preached a most inspiring sermon, and presided at the Eucharist.

Sue and Alan Carling delighted all present with their thespian skills, performing a wonderful sketch which they had written extolling the virtues of giving back to God in thanksgiving for all that we receive from God’s hands.

Diana Peek read a most beautiful harvest poem and the Choir, who led our singing in its usual exemplary fashion under the direction of organist John Crothers, sang the Harvest anthem “O Give Thanks” (words adapted from Psalm 107) by Martin White.

Following the service all present were invited to the Hermitage where they enjoyed a magnificent bring-and-share lunch.
