President Akıncı speaks at annual state opening ceremony of the TRNC Court
President Mustafa Akıncı gave a speech at the annual state opening of the TRNC Court yesterday. In his speech, Akıncı mentioned the Cyprus problem and said that he would be travelling to New York today to attend the United Nations General Assembly. Akıncı also added that he will share his views regarding the future of Cyprus with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York.
Stating that he has always maintained that the Greek Cypriot side must change their point of view for progress to be made, Akıncı said that it is time for the Greek Cypriot side to consider different approaches adding, “We will express our wish for an objective UN report which reflects the realities of our situation to UN Secretary- General Guterres.”
Stressing that Turkish Cypriots must continue to live in the TRNC in peace and prosperity, Akıncı said “We cannot alter our geography. In this case, there are two options – the first is living under a single roof in equality, security and freedom without dominating each other, the second option is to create legal conditions permitting us to live under two separate roofs. We have to reach a compromise.”
