Girne and Yalova become twinned cities


Girne became the twinned city of Yalova when Girne Mayor, Nidai Güngördü, signed the twinning protocol with Yalova Municipality.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü and Yalova Mayor Vefa Salman signed the twinning protocol between the two Municipalities based on the authorization received from the Municipal Councils. In the signing ceremony in Yalova, where important decisions were made by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk for Turkey.  Members of the Councils of the Municipality of Yalova and the Municipality of Girne,  and citizens, attended the signing ceremony.

Güngördü: Inter-municipal cooperation will benefit.

Speaking at the signing ceremony Girne Mayor, Nidai Güngördü, said he was happy that Girne was to be twinned with Yalova. Nidai Güngördü emphasized the importance of becoming a twinned city with Yalova, one of the developing provinces of Turkey, and stated that they have decided to cooperate between the two Municipalities in culture, art and municipal services. Güngörgörü stated that Eskisehir Metropolitan City, Niğde Kemerhisar, Istanbul Beylikdüzü and Bolu Mengen Municipality were also twinned cities, and he believed that cooperation between the Municipalities would bring great benefits.

Salman: We want to have a connection with Girne.

Yalova Mayor, Vefa Salman, made a statement after the signing of the protocol and stated that they were shown interest and hospitality by Girne Mayor, Nidai Güngördü, during their visit to the TRNC and they were proposing to become a twinned city to establish a bond between the two cities.  He said:  “Girne Mayor, Nidai Göngördü warmly welcomed this proposal. We are proud of completing the decision that we have made in a short time”.
