President Akıncı: “Half a century of isolation must end”

The Turkish Cypriot people have been isolated from the world and the international community for too long, President Mustafa Akıncı has stated.

Speaking to a TAK reporter on his way to New York, President Akıncı said that: “This is a great injustice against our society. Now is the time for us to change this situation and take the place that we deserve amongst the international community.

“The isolation, which the Turkish Cypriot people have suffered for half a century, must end now. We should build a new future where we live in equality, freedom and security. We can do this. We are going to New York with this political commitment and willpower and we hope our determination will not remain unrequited.”

Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu met with the Omani Foreign Minister Alawi bin Abdullah

Yesterday 20th September 2016, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu met with the Foreign Minister of Sultanate of Oman Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah as part of his official visit to New York.

Ertuğruloğlu outlined the latest developments in the Cyprus negotiations at the meeting at The Permanent Mission of Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations.

The Omani Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Khalifa bin Ali Issa Al-Harthy, and officials from the Oman Foreign Ministry and the Permanent Representative Office were present at the meeting. From the TRNC, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Lakadamyalı, First Secretary Serap Destegül Redif, Second Secretary Havva Ülgen and Political Affairs Officer Denil Ertuğ were in attendance.
