By Richard Beale…….

The journey is finally over for Esentepe’s Under 15 team, as they were beaten in the Quarter Finals and now their season is finally over.

Saturday 11 June 2016 : KKTF U15 Quarter Final at Balikesir Stadi.

5-0 would seem a bit of a hammering, but Esentepe kept the game alive at 1-0 until the 64th minute, when finally their brave resistance gave out and Yenicami ran out convincing winners.

Considerer this :

Esentepe were drawn away to the Competıtion’s favourites : Yenicami Under 15 team have won this competition for the last 2 seasons : Yenicami have been unbeaten for 2 seasons : Yenicami won all 8 of their qualifying matches scoring 42 goals and conceding only 5. Yenicami are a big rich Supa League Club : Yenicami have a thriving Youth Academy funded by the parent club and local businesses: Yenicami had 5 trainers, Coaching, Physio staff on their bench for this Under 15 game, Esentepe had 2. Yenicami had 7 replacements on the bench Esentepe had 4.

As you can imagine Esentepe were up against it, even before the match started.
Yenicami came at Esentepe from the very start, and you could see that physically they were stronger, they were taller, they had the greater fitness levels and technically they were the better team.

However Esentepe, wıth backs to the wall, somehow managed to keep their goal intact. A combination, of gritty defending, last ditch tackles, bodies blocking shots and poor finishing enabled Esentepe to remain on level terms.

In the 40th minute Esentepe had their best effort and really their only chance of the game in a rare breakaway, when Ege Can holding the ball up well, turned and managed to get in a shot that the Yenicami keeper Mustafa dived and pushed the ball away for a corner.

Playing time added on in the first half Yenicami finally scored to relieve tension that had been building up on the home team’s bench. Ahmet Harnupoğlu made progress into the area and gave Esentepe keeper Kemal no chance with a clinical finish. Half Time Score 1-0.

The second half followed the same pattern again with some frantic and desperate defending by Esentepe as the visitors packed their midfield and defence. Esentepe were unable to retain possession of the ball long enough to relieve their defence and try to give some service to their strikers Ege Can and Sukuru who were isolated. Though, saying that, the front two chased everything upfront, but it was only scraps that they had to feed on.

You could see that Yenicami had been together as a team for several seasons, some of their moves were fantastic, playing one-twos and running into space and always playing the ball from defence instead of the “big Boot”.

64 minutes on and with 16 minutes left (the kids play 80 minute ın these matches) it was still 1-0, Esentepe were still in it as doggedly they battled on.

Finally under a sweltering sun Esentepe finally wilted, the boy who had his finger in the dyke (can I say that!) couldn’t keep the the waters out and finally the floodgates opened and Yenicami ran in 4 goals in the final 19 minutes, scoring through.: Hüseyin Alşan(64), Efe Türker Var (72) and Emre Taşkin (75, 80 +3). FULL TIME SCORE : 5-0

Esentepe kids can hold their heads up high, losing 5-0 to a team of this high calibre is no disgrace. Despite the scoreline nobody let the side down, Captain Hüseyin was immense in midfield and defence, as was Izzet. Defenders Osman, Fatih and Şahin all played their part in a brave rear guard action. The future is bright for Esentepe. In maybe 3 years time some of these kids will be knocking on the first team door. Bravo Esentepe Under 15 team, now rest, you deserve it.
