Having met Osman Balikcioglu, I was very pleased to hear that he has now written two books and he will be promoting and launching the second issue of his first book – Bizim İnsanımız Bizim Lefkoşa’mız (Our People, Our Nicosia) and also his new book – İngiltere’deki Değerlerimiz. (Our precious people in England) and this will be in aid of Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips).
The book-signing and promotion will be at the Lefkoşa Merit Hotel on the 15th of June at 5pm, and Osman will be pleased to see you there, everyone is welcome.
Osman Balikcioglu was one half of the double act Alikko and Caher which was a popular radio programme in Cyprus in the 1960’s. Sadly, Osman’s partner and good friend Kemal Tunç died some 9 years ago but Osman, who now lives in London, continues with similar sketches with his theatre company and in fact came to Cyprus in 2015 with his group to perform at 4 different venues. Osman has always supported Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) and has made many donations to them both from his London performances and also from the proceeds of the 4 venues where his group performed in North Cyprus.
We were very pleased to meet Osman when he made a visit to North Cyprus prior to him bringing his theatre company later that year to perform their sketches and we did in fact attend one of the performances at Near East University in Lefkosa. It was so nice to be able to meet and talk to Osman as I had an interest in Alikko and Caher having written an article about them following the discovery of a statue of the duo in a small park in Bűyűkkonűk.
