Woeful Esentepe Lose Vital Match
Esentepe produced one of their poorest displays of the season as they were comprehensively beaten by a relegation Gönyeli side, who looked anything but that.
Result : ESENTEPE KKSK 1 GÖNYELI SK 3.
Sunday April 3rd 2016 : K-PET league 1 : @ Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.

Gönyeli colours : Dark blue shirts, red shorts/socks.
A very warm afternoon attracted a large crowd (also a good sprinkling of Ex Pats) for this important match, which was more vital for Gönyeli who needed to win. Esentepe seeking 4 points to keep them safe, brought in 17 year old Emre Soytürk in place of striker Eser.
Gönyeli got off to a dream start taking the lead after only 3 minutes with a soft goal after they had been awarded a free kick for handball near the corner flag. Ulaş took the kick which went straight in the net at the far post past a static and bewildered Esentepe keeper Tuğrul. Score 0-1.
Esentepe were being caught in possession and were struggling to cope with fast breakaways from Gönyeli with Cemal and Ulaş a constant handful to the Esentepe defenders.
Tuğrul made amends for his early error making a couple of good saves to prevent Gönyeli increasing their lead. The nearest Esentepe came to scoring was a header from Başak which clipped the top of the Gönyeli crossbar following an Emek corner. However Esentepe came unstuck again in the 32nd minute when they were caught by another fast breakaway, ironically after Esentepe had put together a fine move. Esentepe’s full back Mahmut produced a superb overlap, combining with Mehmet, but his cross was cleared by the Gönyeli defence. The ball was quickly played up field on the left, to Ulaş with Mahmut still up field (no fault of his), Berkan came across to cover but missed his tackle and Ulaş continued into the Esentepe area before slipping the ball past Tuğrul as he advanced, a real sucker punch. Score 0-2.
Esentepe hit the Gönyeli wood work again in the 36th minute when a long cross from right by Mehmet was headed down by Başak to Umar who shot through a defender’s legs, with the Gönyeli keeper Mustafa apparently unsighted the ball hit the right hand post, and scooped away by the desperate keeper before it went over the line. Tuğrul again came to Esentepe’s rescue as Gönyeli prised open Esentepe’s defence again, the keeper managing to block an Ahmet shot from close range when he looked certain to score. Despite the warm afternoon the match was played at a furious pace and some tasty challenges were going in. Half Time score 0-2 :
Striker Eser was introduced by Esentepe during the break replacing teenager Emre. Esentepe got the lifeline they were searching for in the 50th minute when following a cross from the right by Mahmut Başak appeared to be pushed to the ground by Okan as he challenged for the ball. The dependable Emek sent keeper Mustafa the wrong way with his penalty kick, now having scored 5 out of 5 from the spot this season. Score 1-2.
The match which had been simmering for a while finally boiled over in the 53rd minute following a foul by Esentepe’s Mehmet on Veli. The Gönyeli player reacted and appeared to push Mehmet, who went down poleaxed, this led to a melee involving several players. Eventually calm was restored with both players going into the book. Gönyeli continued to torment Esentepe with their breakaways again Tuğrul saved well with feet to thwart Ulaş.
Esentepe got caught again with another sucker punch, Esentepe were on the attack when Burak missed a sitter and his weak shot was cleared up field gathered on the left by Ahmet who outstripped the Esentepe defence before delivering a perfect cross for Ulaş to head down and pass Tuğrul to complete his hat trick. Score 1-3
Gönyeli were reduced to 10 men when Veli was yellow carded for the second time for a foul. Esentepe made spirited attempts to score in the last 5 minutes but to no avail, even this week no injury time goal was forthcoming.
SUMMING UP :
A very poor performance, the team lacked spirit and tactically they were out thought. A neutral watching this match would never have guessed that Gönyeli were struggling near the bottom. With 4 matches left, the panic button is not being pressed as the Coach still reckons we need 4 points to avoid the relegation “play out” place. Next week we are away to bottom place Lapta, who mathematically can stay up, but they will need to win all of their remaining matches. On Sunday they produced an astounding result thrashing 3rd placed Yalova 5-0- Esentepe beware! they are not going to be cannon fodder. With a very limited squad, the Coach’s hands are tied, we haven’t anyone except from scoring from the penalty spot, who can score goals and that has been a problem all season.
