I Don’t Believe It! Esentepe Get Out Of Jail Again
With 4 minutes of injury time being played Esentepe waited until the 93rd minute before they used their “get out of jail card” and snatched an undeserved point. For most of the match Esentepe played second fiddle to a Görneç side, fighting for League 1 survival, but the home side wasted several chances and have only themselves to blame,

Saturday March 26th 20916 : K-Pet League 1 @ Görneç Üç Şehitler Stadi.
Weather : Dry, cloudy with occasional sun.
Görneç colours : All black, with a green trim around the bottom of their shirts.
Esentepe colours : Red shirts, white/shorts/socks.
Being a “local derby” match, the crowd was disappointing, but Esentepe took a good following with them who travelled over the mountains to play this crucial game.
Görneç were on the attack straight from the kick off, with Celal shooting over the bar in their first attack. In the 10th minute Celal crossed from the right, and Cemre in a crowded area headed wide. Görneç didn’t have to wait long when they took the lead in the 12th minute through their Captain İrfan Bosnak. With Esentepe’s defender Nersin off the field receiving treatment, Fehim, who I am sure, tried a shot which was going wide until İrfan managed to get his head to the ball to divert it past Tuğrul. Score 0-1.
Esentepe were on the back foot, making little impression up front and giving the ball away carelessly on several occasions.
However in a rare counter attack, in the 24th minute Başak was put through on the right, but the angle was too wide and the Görneç keeper Çayan came out to block his shot. Mahmut put in a long deep cross that the keeper pushed over the bar. After that Esentepe were struggling to retain any possession of the ball with lone striker Eser surrounded by 3 or 4 defenders at a time. With the midfield being overrun, Görneç were far the better team. Just before the break İrfan brought a good diving save from Türul, after he had made space for himself to create a shooting opportunity. Half time score: 0-1
Esentepe put together a good move early in the second half, when Başak winning a ball in midfield sent Emek away on the left and his low cross found Eser who managed to turn and fire in a shot which was scrambled away for a corner. From that corner Eser got in a near post header which was easily saved by keeper.
Görneç quickly got into their stride again when Esentepe defenders Nersin and Berkan, got into a muddle kicking the ball against each other. The ball rebounded to Cemre who shot wide. In the 60th minute Berkan did well to spot the danger and block a through ball, which was retrieved by İrfan as Nersin came across to meet him, he whipped over a cross to the far post, where Cemre unmarked at the far post headed wide when he should have scored. Esentepe had another let off in the 65th minute when Huseyin Yildrim struck powerfully a 25 yard shot which Esentepe keeper Tuğrul did well to push the ball onto the bar, which then rebounded to Cemre who reacted quickly to prod the ball home. Luckily for Esentepe the goal was ruled out for offside.
With the clock ticking on and Plan A having not worked as well as plan B, Esentepe coach made 3 quick substitutions and tried Plan C, switching to a 3-4-3 formation to try to put pressure on Görneç. Esentepe threatened with a couple of free kicks, but as the game went into injury time there seemed little chance that Esentepe could save the game. In the 93rd minute a long ball from midfield was fastened on by substitute Emre Soytürk, who managed to pass to İLYAS just outside the area. The midfielder volleyed the ball over Çayan’s outstretched hands and into the net to square the match up. Full Time Score : 1-1
SUMMING UP :
For the umpteenth time this season, I can’t remember how many times exactly, Esentepe managed to salvage a result in injury time. Yes the team were out of sorts today, but one thing you can say about Esentepe they never throw in the towel until they hear the final whistle. Görneç will be kicking themselves for letting 3 vital points slip from their grasp,which could cost them dearly in their survival fight. Esentepe for 70 minutes played a 4-4-1-1 formation, which did not work and they were unable to retain possession long enough to create any attacks. A little late, the Coach changed tactics and got away with it and got his reward luckily. Many players were below par, though the defence played adequately and İlyas after a poor first half, started pulling the strings in midfield in the second half. I think 17 year old Muhammed was Esentepe’s best player, starting the game in midfield, he switched positions with Mahmut and played at right back, before being substituted in the 75th minute but he was strong in the tackle and had a sound match.
