Ahmet Abdulaziz – Art Exhibition
By Margaret Sheard…..
We had the pleasure of meeting up with Ahmet Abdulaziz in January 2015, when we wrote an article about him under the heading “I run I walk” (to read this see the link at the end of this article). While talking to Ahmet we learned that as well as being dedicated to running/walking he also is a very accomplished artist and although we found him to be a very modest person, from some of the work we have seen on Facebook from time to time, he is a very talented artist.
We were very pleased to hear that Ahmet will be having an exhibition of his paintings at the İsmet Vehbi Güney Exhibition Hall (Behind Asal Şübesi – Old Peyak) Lefkoşa (North Nicosia). The opening will be on Monday 22nd February at 6pm and the exhibition will remain open every day from 10am to 6pm until the 26th February.
I have seen many of Ahmet’s paintings which appear from time to time on his Facebook page and he really has a talent to be admired so it will be so nice to be able to see a whole range of his work at his exhibition.
This will be Ahmet’s 4th exhibition in Northern Cyprus. The first one was held at Tekman Sanat Merkezi in 1995, the second and third were held at Saçakli Ev in 1997 and 2009 respectively.
Generally Ahmet makes portraits in oil, however he also paints life and still life. In the past he worked a lot in pencil and pen and ink. This particular exhibition consists not only of portraits but for the first time he is exhibiting his work in cubism. A couple of paintings will show life in semi abstract forms.
If you wish to contact Ahmet his email address is ahmet_5591@hotmail.com and telephone contact can be made on 0533 876 6985
Ahmet is a familiar sight on the main Lefkosa to Girne road and people will probably have seen him doing his frequent walk/run along this route. Ahmet is now 60 years old and his aim is to run/walk at least 60 marathon distances this year, to be a unique birth year gift to himself. It is not about completing a marathon in the fastest time which is why he runs and also walks, it is being able to actually fulfil his desire to cover the distance, over and over again.
