A fitting tribute to the late Marian Stokes
By Jayne Matter – Tulips ExPat Cancer Support….
A gloriously sunny Christmas Eve saw family and friends of the late Marian Stokes gather in Lapta Cemetery to say farewell. Several of those present spoke of their memories of Marian and the occasion was very much one of celebrating and giving thanks for Marian’s life. Marian had chosen the music to be played at the beginning and end of the service – Wham’s “Wake me up before you go-go”, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and George Michael’s “Don’t let the Sun go down on me”. Marian had also told her partner, Richard, that she wanted donations to be made to KHYD/Tulips in lieu of flowers. We are very happy to announce that the magnificent sum of 2,242TL was donated by those present at the service and afterwards at the Blue Song, Lapta. Online donations from friends in the UK have also been made.
Tulips would like to thank all of those who donated and also Richard, Marian’s brother Tom and his wife Pasqueline and Marian’s sister Anne and her husband Michael for asking for donations to be made in Marian’s memory. This money will pay the salary of an Oncology nurse for one month, something that would please Marian immensely as she was very close to the nurses who were involved in her treatment. There will also be enough left over to pay for some much needed repairs to the chairs in the Chemotherapy room. Marian brought this to our attention and again would be very pleased that we can now make the repairs. Marian’s brother Tom closed the service by saying that if we all look up at the beautiful Cyprus night sky and see a star twinkling a little brighter than the others – that will be Marian.
RIP Marian, it has been a privilege to have known you.
A wonderful lady who will be sadly missed, our condolences to her family and friends
You were a unique lady…you will be missed.
