ESENTEPE In Pulsating Derby Match

Weather: Dry and Sunny.

After eight weeks of trying Esentepe finally recorded their first win of the Season thanks to a 90 minute winner from Substitute Emrah. The match as fitting to a local Derby was exciting and very entertaining. However Esentepe paid dearly for their win by having one of their most consistently best players, Vurkan, carried off on a stretcher with a serious knee injury.
Esentepe dropped Goalkeeper Serkan and replaced him with Tuğrul who had served a one match ban. On loan veteran defender Baris (he has had various spells with Esentepe) came in at right back with Umar dropping to the bench. Very surprisingly no place in the squad was found for Başak having served his 3 match suspension. I understand from inside the camp that he had a disagreement with the Coach.
Görneç, our close neighbours from over the mountain, brought with them a large and very vocal following. It must be the mountain air, as quite a few of their players were well over 6ft tall. Leading scorer Arda, would be more at home playing quarterback in American Football, a mountain of a man.
After a quiet opening, Esentepe’s bad start to the season continued when Esentepe’s Vurkan went down in some agony clutching his knee. After lengthy treatment he was carried off on a stretcher and into a car, to take him to Hospital. Umar came on to replace him.
Esentepe put together a fine move when İlyas found Burak on the left and his cross was met at the far post by Umar who volleyed a first time shot just wide of the post. From the resulting goal kick Esentepe took the lead in the 23rd minute as lady luck, which seemed to have deserted Esentepe all season, suddenly shone on them. From the goal kick taken by keeper Hasan, the ball was immediately returned back into the Görneç area by Berkan. Görneç defender Firat Kulle fastening onto the bouncing ball, headed the ball back to his keeper, but unfortunately for him he headed past his keeper and the ball, very slowly and agonisingly for Firat, into his own net. 1-0.
Gösrneç hit back and their forwards were causing concern amongst the Esentepe defence with some slick passing movements. It came as no surprise when they equalised after 26 minutes through leading scorer Arda. Esentepe lost possession of the ball just outside their area, the ball ran to Arda who deftly with the outside of his foot, beat a static Tuğrul to record his 7th goal of the season. 1-1.
The match was end to end and it was a genuine cut and thrust Derby with no quarters given and it took a goal out of the blue just before half time to separate the teams. Rifat Haciarifoğlu picking up the ball on the left and cut inside and unleashed a terrific shot from almost 25 yards, which landed in the top corner of Tuğrul’s far post, giving the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever. HALF-TIME : 1-2.
The burly Arda was a handful for the Esentepe defence and in the 54th minute Esentepe’s keeper Tuğrul produced a magnificent save to thwart him. Arda slipped past Emek and bore down on goal, but Tuğrul coming out quickly to meet him spread himself and pushed Arda’s point blank range shot round the post, to keep Esentepe in the game.
Esentepe were not throwing in the towel and shocked Görneç when they equalised in the 71st minute. Mahmut played a long ball over the Görneç defence where striker ESER, prodded the ball past the advancing Hasan and into the left hand corner of the goal.
Tuğrul came to Esentepe’s rescue in the 76th minute plunging himself feet first and blocking Mustafa’s shot.
Esentepe’s greater fitness was beginning to tell as it was now Görneç who were hanging on and incredibly in the 90th minute they won the match, with a superbly taken goal from substitute Emrah. The striker who spends most of his playing career sat on Esentepe’s replacement bench, had come on for Baris in the 64th minute. İlyas who had a very strong match for Esentepe spotted Emrah’s run, and the striker rounded the advancing goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net to send the Esentepe team and supporters into wild celebrations. FULL TIME : 3-2.
SUMMING UP :
A great match and a compliment to both teams who gave us some terrific entertainment. Somebody had to lose, and maybe Görneç who had a confident penalty shout turned down, didn’t really deserve to. At long last Esentepe had some luck, and the turning point of the match came when Tuğrul prevented Arda increasing Görneç’s lead with that fine save. Esentepe were not at their best but they rolled their sleeves up and without their talisman Vurkan produced a gutsy performance. All players gave their all and Esentepe, if they keep this level of performance up, will climb out of the relegation zone. Nersin was the pick of the defenders and again Eser, led the line well, but it was İLYAS, without his partner in midfield, who stepped up and put in a very strong performance,

Esentepe were trailing 0-1 at Half Time but equalised in the 57th minute through striker Hürkan Görneçli. Esentepe won the match in the 72nd minute through a glorious strike from Emre Soytürk.
