Result : ESENTEPE KKSK 0 KARŞIYAKA ASK 3
Saturday 17 October 2015- K.Pet League 1: Venue: Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.
Newly promoted Karşiyaka inflicted a heavy first League defeat of the Season on Esentepe as they controlled this match from start to finish. Indeed with Esentepe down to 10 men after striker Başak was sent off in the 78 minute, a combination of poor finishing and good saves from Esentepe keeper Serkan prevented Karşiyaka from coming away with at least a 6 goal victory.
The weather was well into the mid 30’s and Karsiyaka brought with them a large, very noisy and enthusiastic following.
Esentepe paraded themselves in their 3rd change strip of the season, this time a rather jazzy dark red shirt fading downwards to a pale red, black shorts and socks. Coach Gokan Kim made 2 changes from last week leaving out defender Salih and midfielder İlyas, replacing them with experienced Umar and inexperienced teenager Mehmet.
Right from the kick off Karşiyaka were into their stride and Esentepe were indebted to veteran goalkeeper Serkan when Zafer created space for himself and whipped in a shot which brought a good parrying diving save at the far post by Serkan, the ball fell to Fehim but Serkan again reacted quickly by blocking the follow up shot.
After dominating the opening exchanges it came as no surprise when Karşiyaka took the lead in the 22nd minute after Esentepe conceded a free kick wide on the right. Hasan whipped over a great delivery and before Esentepe defenders could react, Karsiyaka Captain Olgun rushed in and sent a glancing header into Esentepe’s far left post. 0-1.
Urged on by their supporters Karşiyaka were quicker to the ball in every department the only goal bound efforts Esentepe could offer was a long range volley by Vurkan which went straight into Karşiyaka keeper Kemal’s hands and a Kaan header over the bar following an Emek free kick. H-T 0-1.
Esentepe must have had a half time roasting from Coach Gokan Kim, as they at last exerted some pressure on the Karşiyaka goal in the early minutes of the second half.
After 48 minutes they should have equalised, when Vurkan put a through ball straight to Mehmet with only goalkeeper Kemal to beat, but the teenager miss hit his shot and Kemal blocked his effort and also a follow up effort by Kaan.
Esentepe’s revival was short lived when in the 54th minute Karşiyaka increased their lead from another free kick that has been a source of embarrassment this season for Esentepe. Once again Esentepe conceded a free kick, centrally in the semi circle, just outside their goal area. Hasan Sedatğil lined up the free kick, bent his shot round the defensive wall and past a static Serkan and into the Esentepe net. 0-2.
Immediately Esentepe made a double substitution with the recalled Umar and Mehmet being replaced by Iİyas and Mehmet.
Esentepe were still unable to raise their game as Karşiyaka continued to look impressive. Their goalkeeper Kemal won every cross/corner/ free kick that came his way, but had the annoying habit of going down injured every time, much to the frustrations of the Esentepe players. Once this had happened again in the 73rd minute Esentepe’s Başak could not control his tongue or his temper, and he was red carded by referee Mustafa for persistent arguing, so another nail was hammered into Esentepe’s coffin.
To complete a thoroughly miserable afternoon in the 84th minute they conceded a third goal, almost identical to their second. This time substitute İlyas bundled over a Karşiyaka player centrally just outside the Esentepe area. Up stepped substitute Cengiz Belet who placed a superb shot over the wall, the ball hitting the underside of the Esentepe crossbar, between post and bar, before bouncing into the net giving goal keeper Serkan not a cat in hell’s chance of saving it. 0-3.
With Esentepe’s head and shape gone a number of Karşiyaka breakaways could have resulted in further goals and Serkan made at least 3 good saves to prevent Karşiyaka running riot. Karşiyaka supporters were now on cloud 9 and continued to wildly support their team, while Esentepe’s despondent supporters had long gone home.
SUMMING UP : What can you say, Karşiyaka were worthy winners, from the minute they stepped onto the field they wanted it more than Esentepe. This was one of the poorest performances that Esentepe had produced for a long time. Their body language was not right in the whole match. Obviously Başak getting himself stupidly sent off, and being 2 goals down gave Esentepe a huge mountain to climb. I said it before the start of the season that goalscoring will be a problem for Esentepe, but what is concerning me is the amount of goals we are conceding. Every goal we have let in this season have been from set pieces. Why are we conceding free kicks just outside the box? Why are the opposition scoring every time they get a free kick? A lot of work needs to be done on defending at set pieces this week in training. Coach Gokan Kim has all the headaches and will need to lift the team before they play near neighbours Düzkaya in Catalkoy. Düzkaya Coached by Ex-Coach Cemal Kir and having 3 ex-Esentepe players in their squad will be well up for the contest.
