German Ambassador speaks to TFR

Tuesday last week, the association The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR) had the pleasure and honour to welcome the German Ambassador in Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Nikolai von Schoepff.

At Silver Rocks Restaurant in Lapta the Ambassador, who has been in office since October last year, spoke to a group of German TFR-members about his duties, which he mainly sees at promoting more interest on Cyprus in Germany in order to strengthen the bilateral relations.

Of course, the current process of negotiations between North and South Cyprus was also discussed. The Ambassador said that the German government and he are supporting the two parties in the Cyprus talks, especially when advice is desired. The Ambassador stressed that Germany has a special experience with the unification process and is always prepared to share its experience. Overall, the Ambassador is looking positively towards a possible reunification of Cyprus and sees it primarily as a chance for economic benefits for both parts of the island.

After his introductory speech, Mr. von Schoepff answered various questions of the TFR-members in a very open way.

The TFR is very likely be able to welcome back the Ambassador very soon, because Munich born Mr. von Schoepff was very pleased to hear of the Oktoberfest of the club on 4th October 2015 and promised to come, maybe even together with his wife.
