RIP Keith Barron
Suffolk Regiment in Cyprus 1957-59
By Margaret Sheard….
Having written many articles about the lads who served with the Suffolk Regiment in Cyprus in the late 1950’s. I am always interested to receive information about their present day activities and I was sorry to hear the sad news of the death of one of the ex-servicemen – RIP Keith Barron 1938-2015.
Derek Chilvers and Chris Veness Black keep me up to date with the current reunions and get-togethers of the ex Suffolk Regiment “old boys” and Chris has sent me the following very poignant email which has been sent to his fellow comrades from the time they spent in Cyprus.
Hi Everyone some sad news I have been informed by Digger Ward that Keith Barron sadly died on June the 13th.
I sent a Suffolk Regiment Condolences Card from us all which his wife says she is going to frame. She was overwhelmed by our support and has asked me to express her thanks to you all. If anybody remembers him please let me, Derek Chilvers, or Digger Ward know. Digger who knew him from the army in Cyprus went to Keith’s funeral on 13th June in Leicestershire
I’d just like to add that attending and making our reunions seems more important when something sad like this happens. We are all living on the same conveyor belt together going through time so to speak, and it is so important to support and keep in touch with each other and share our memories.
Hope to see you at Minden Day on Sunday August 2nd at Gibraltar Barracks, and Sunday December 6th at Rushbrooke Arms Sicklesmere. Bury St Edmund’s – God willing.
Kindest regards to you all, Chris.
I am sure there are many ex-servicemen who attend reunions of their respective Regiments and they will understand the camaraderie between the lads who served together and still keep in touch today from time to time.
