TRNC Cricket looking for major honours
The Creditwest North Cyprus Cricket League is back this Sunday 11th January with the long awaited deciding match between top placed TRNC CC and 2nd Nicosia.
The leagues in North and South Cyprus have been dogged lately by pitch availability with the UN ground being repaired and the North suffering from a mixture of water logged pitches and no places to play due to football fixture congestion. So, it’s been decided 3rd placed Limassol’s Moufflons would cancel their final Northern game, leaving the 2 leading teams to scrap for the 50 possible points and the title. As team Manager Nigel Holman says, “each side has beaten the other once in the league and with the TRNC on 67 points and their visitors 64, it is going to the wire. It would be a brave man who bets on which team becomes 2014 Champions”.
The TRNC have been in excellent form in the cricket’s ultra-short version, not only sharing the title 2 weeks ago in the Peshawar Memorial Tournament but on New Year’s day winning the ‘Goodbye 2014 Welcome 2015′ annual tennis ball festival, with the team’s Janwali winning the man-of-the-tournament and Shahzad the Master Blaster trophy foremost sixes. Team captain Danish Afridi is delighted with the winning habit, but admits 30 over cricket is very different to playing only 5 over games and worries about some of his team’s concentration that must be maintained.
The TRNC Club is hoping for lots of support at 11.00am at Pia Bella Stadium for their decisive 30 over/side game on Sunday 11th January.
