US Ambassador to Lefkoşa John Koenig: “It is important for sides to continue to be willing to solve difficulties and to make progress in negotiations”

US Ambassador to Lefkoşa John M. Koenig said that it is important for sides in Cyprus to continue to be willing to solve the difficulties and to John Koenigmake progress in the Cyprus negotiations.

Stating that they are satisfied with Turkey’s support given towards the solution of the Cyprus problem, Koenig said that the Cyprus problem was discussed at the high level between the American and Turkish authorities.

Indicating that Cyprus negotiations have proceeded to a new phase, Koenig said ‘I hope we will see the advantages of great support of Turkey given towards the solution of Cyprus problem’.

Furthermore, Koenig stated that he is hopeful that the new phase in the Cyprus negotiations will open ways for solving the issues which could not be solved up to today and to proceed to the real negotiations.

President Eroğlu : “We can accomplish a result with an understanding of reciprocal give and take”

President Derviş Eroğlu pointed out that there are major differences between the Greek Cypriot side and the Turkish Cypriot side and he said that results can be accomplished with reciprocal Dervis Eroglu - Picture by BRTgive-and-take, not with exaggerated demands.

President Eroglu has gone to New York in order to make various contacts. Answering a question whether a meeting of Foreign Ministers of Organization of the Islamic Cooperation will be held in TRNC, Eroğlu indicated that OIC Secretary General is considering this issue.

Answering a question whether there will be a new Green-tree Summit, Eroğlu pointed out that he has proposed to the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades to have a trilateral meeting with the Secretary General but this has been refused.

Eroglu said that after the UN General Assembly there may be a trilateral summit in Geneva.

Eroglu also added that they have no doubt about the goodwill of the new Special Advisor to Cyprus – Eide.

Ozersay : “Everyone must be ready for the developments regarding Cyprus”

Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay said that a new period has Kudret Özersay 3been entered into which both sides should be flexible in some issues. Ozersay said that he considers that the chief actors will have a new initiative after a long period of break and push the process in order to have a concrete result in the island and added that everyone must be ready for the developments regarding Cyprus.

Evaluating his meetings with UN Assistant Secretary General – Jeffrey Feltman and Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary – Feridun Sinirlioğlu in New York the day before yesterday and his meeting with US State Department Assistant Undersecretary – Victoria Nuland yesterday, Ozersay said that he is pleased to see that the UN, USA and Turkey are all decisive. Atalay to visit the mosques and cemeteries in Baf (Paphos) upon the invitation of Chrisostomos II

Head of Religious Affairs Department Prof. Dr. Talip Atalay will visit the mosques and cemeteries in and close by the city ofTalip Atalay Baf (Paphos) in South Cyprus upon the invitation of Archbishop Chrisostomos II today.

Chrisostomos II will accompany Atalay and the delegation with him during their visit in South Cyprus. Atalay and the accompanying delegation will return to the TRNC tomorrow.

The visit is organized by the office named “Religious route to contribute peace in Cyprus” which operates under the auspices of the state of Sweden and it will be the first ever visit to Baf by a head of Religious Affairs Department (Mufti) after 1974.

TRNC opens a stand at ‘IFTM Top Resa Tourism Fair’ in Paris

It has been stated that the TRNC attended the ‘IFTM Top Resa Tourism Fair’ in Paris, the capital of France, with the initiative of TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports.

At the fair which the TRNC attended for the first time this year, studies for promotion and marketing abroad are being done together with the representatives of the tourism sector.

TRNC is introducing its nature, historical monuments, beaches, culture and various tourism products at the fair.
