Dawn Vigil event on the 19th of July
Dawn Vigil event which is the symbol of freedom of the Turkish Cypriot people will be celebrated this year in line with the 40th anniversary celebrations of the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation.
According to a statement made by the Dawn Vigil Organisation Committee during this year’s event, just like it happened 40 years ago when 50th regiment landed at the Yavuz Çıkartma beach (Escape beach), the regiments will come to the beach once again open their flags and meet with the fighters on the island.
This year’s event will begin on the 19th of July at 9pm and will continue until dawn.
Zühal Olcay will be one of the singers performing during the event.
The world’s largest janissary band consisting of 110 members from Istanbul will be taking part in this year’s event also.
In line with the tradition the torch procession will also be realised and towards dawn those attending the event will be treated to firework displays.
With the reading of the morning ezan the dawn watch event will come to an end.
