Eroğlu : “Demands in the energy issue should be state policy
President Eroğlu pointed out that the demands that should be made to the Greek side in the issue of energy should be state policy and these may be included in the confidence building measures package at the negotiation table.
Eroğlu said that the Greek Side has not refused rights of the Turkish Cypriot people in the natural gas reserves found in the Mediterranean, however they say that this can only be realized after an agreement and after the natural gas revenues are realized and Eroğlu reminded that there are proposals which they presented to the UN regarding this issue.
Eroğlu added that there is an energy shortage in the country however the production continues; there is a Ministry of Energy, and this Ministry can be re-organized as an independent Ministry, and he expressed that many other countries are also interested in the natural gas in the Mediterranean.
Stressing that in order to reach an agreement in the island the other side should also be willing. Eroglu said that the Greek side should display a will of solution and should not ignore the realities on the island.
Nami meets with the Ambassadors accredited in the island at a working lunch
Ambassadors of the EU member countries Belgium, Austria, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Hungary and additionally the Australian Ambassador also attended the working lunch which was organized by Foreign Minister Nami for the second time.
Nami informed the Ambassadors about the latest stage reached in the negotiations process and conveyed his opinions regarding how to overcome the existing deadlocks in the negotiations.
