President Eroğlu has gone to Sivas to give conference on the issue of Cyprus
President Derviş Eroğlu has gone to Sivas as a guest of Cumhuriyet University. Eroğlu will give a conference themed ‘Past, Present and Future of Cyprus’. The title of Honorary PhD will be presented to President Eroğlu for his successful services in the field of international relations.
Support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs personnel for ‘Let’s do it’ campaign
75 persons from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the campaign which was organized on the World Environment Day.
Minister of Foreign Affairs – Özdil Nami who attended the campaign with his personnel, thanked those who had organized this and also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs personnel who showed awareness for the campaign.
Heinze : “Cyprus problem started with Enosis”
German lawyer Dr. Christian Heinze who gave service between the years of 1960-1963 at the Cyprus Republic as the Vice President of the Constitutional Court stated that Greek Cypriot fascism became violence due to Greek Cypriots’ struggle of Enosis for uniting Cyprus to Greece. “With that aim, a terrorist organization was established and conflicts occurred because Turkish Cypriots did not want to be a part of Greece” Heinze added.
Dr. Heinze who is one of the most influential witnesses of the 1960-1963 period also stressed “1960 Constitution was an initiative for reconciliation but it did not work due to the Greek Cypriot side’s attitude”.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Arınç: “We are in favour of a solution of the Cyprus problem in spite of everything”
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister – Bülent Arınç indicated that nowadays a positive process is continuing in Cyprus and said: “We are in favour of a solution of the Cyprus problem in spite of everything. The EU could not give a good account in the Cyprus issue however it is not too late yet. Cyprus is waiting for a solution as an internal and global test for the EU and Turkey. ”
It has been indicated at the 4th Summit of Turkish Council that resumption of the comprehensive negotiations process in Cyprus is welcomed.
In the joint statement issued after the 4th Summit of Turkish Speaking Countries Cooperation Council it has been stated that resumption of the comprehensive negotiations process in Cyprus is welcomed.
The statement recorded: “Presidents of the States have expressed that resumption of the comprehensive negotiation process in Cyprus on 11 February 2014 is welcomed and they confirmed their support for a mutually agreed solution under the auspices of the UN and based on political equality of the two peoples in the island.”
