Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble
2014 – The Final Total
Raising money for TULIPS (Help Those with Cancer)
By Margaret Sheard.
We were proud to be invited as cyprusscene.com to the official presentation to Raziye Kocaismail of Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) of the funds raised during the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble 2014 and the associated events. What an achievement by the Committee together with their supporters and sponsors on the staggering amount raised. Raziye’s face was a picture and I think for a moment she was completely lost for words.
This is the press release issued by Sue Steel, member of the committee.
They did it. They smashed last year’s total of TL42,528.05 by over TL20,000 making it the most successful Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble to date.
The final figure, handed over to Raziye Kocaïsmaïl, President of Help Those With Cancer (Tulips) on Wednesday, 30th April at the Tulips’ headquarters in Lefkoşa was 65,731TL.
Mrs Kocaïsmaïl was overwhelmed when she heard the amount and said could not believe how it was possible to raise so much.
She said: “Thank you on behalf of all cancer patients and the committee on raising more money than ever this year. Whilst we do help with treatment costs for some expatriates, we mostly point them in the right direction as they do not know the system here or the language so we help where and when we can.”
In response, Art Watson, Chairman of the 2014 committee said: “It has been our great pleasure to help Tulips because of the incredible work the organisation does for so many people.
He continued: “There are so many people to thank: the sponsors, the committee, helpers on the day, the organisations who put on satellite events and of course the media. This has been a joint effort in so many ways with tremendous support from everyone. We hope to raise even more in 2015.”
At the presentation were Raziye Kocaïsmaïl, President of Help Those with Cancer (Tulips), Art Watson, Chairman 2014 committee along with committee members Ivor Moon, Gill Moon, Mary Watson, Carmel Keavney, Roy Haskett and Sue Steel. Mrs Lesley Roper also attended.
Also in attendance were representatives from BRTK, Genç TV and Ada TV, along with Cyprus Today and Cyprusscene.
Mary Watson told me that a lady who had recovered from breast cancer herself did the 8km route and raised 4,000TL from her sponsors.
It is so important to keep the funds coming for Tulips, which does so much for cancer sufferers. There will be many other events to support Tulips throughout the year and the Esentepe Committee already have their sights on 2015 at which, as Art Watson said, it is hoped to raise even more at next year’s Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble. They should all feel very proud.
