Raising money for TULIPS (Help Those with Cancer Association)

We have received some really nice news from Sue Steel of the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble committee which we would like to pass on to our readers.

The Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble committee unanimously agreed that in George Roper2014 the 8km winning trophy will be perpetually dedicated to George Roper, co-founder of the Esentepe Fun Run, who sadly lost his personal battle with cancer in 2011. The committee are committed to honouring the memory of Mr Roper and there will be a further event, later in April 2014, which will also be dedicated to him.

The 5km winning trophy will be perpetually dedicated to Erdal Barut, former Mayor of Esentepe who tragically died in a car accident earlier this year.

Mr Barut’s family have been approached and they are delighted that his memory is being honoured in this way and have indicated that family members will attend the event.Erdal Barut

The current Mayor of Esentepe, Cemali Engin, has also said he and some of his staff will attend the event.

Sue Steel, committee member said, “We felt it was important we remember and honour George Roper so that all his hard work is not forgotten, which is why we have named the 8km trophy after him. Mr Barut was a great Mayor of Esentepe so it is a fitting tribute to name one of the trophies after him too. We are delighted his family agreed and also expressed their wish to come to the event.”

The organisation of the Esentepe Fun, Run and Ramble is well under way and requests are already coming in for sponsorship forms and also from organisations wishing to enter teams.
