EMU IS AMONG THE TOP 500 UNIVERSITIES ACCORDING TO ‘WEBOMETRICS RANKING OF WORLD UNIVERSITIES’
Eastern Mediterranean University (DAU) is reported to have been among the list of top 500 universities in European Union countries according to ‘Webometrics Ranking of World Universities’ of Cyber Metrics Lab.
According to information received from the EMU, after the research carried out by ‘Webometrics’ at 5,827 universities in Europe, EMU has been ranked in the 444th position among the universities in the European Union. EMU has taken place at the top 7 percent.
EMU is also in 1372nd position, at the top 5 percent, amongst more than 20 thousand reviewed universities in the world.
AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS WILL BE ABLE TO VOTE FROM TRNC
It has been reported that Australian citizens in the TRNC who would like to vote for the 7th September elections in Australia will be able to vote on 27th August, 29th August, 3rd September and 5th September at the Australian High Commission in Lefkoşa.
According to the written statement by Australian High Commission in Lefkoşa, the citizens will reach their elector information using the website ‘ www.aec.gov.au ’.
According to the statement, all the necessary procedures in order to vote from a foreign country can be done using the website ‘ www.aec.gov.au/election/pva’.
Polling will take place on 27th August, 29th August, 3rd September and 5th September at 8:30-12:30, at the Australian High Commission (20 Güner Türkmen Street, Köşklüçiftlik, Lefkoşa).

DE-JURE POPULATION OF TRNC IS 286,257
It has been announced that the permanent resident population in the TRNC (de-jure) is 286,257 which is distributed as 150,483 (52.6%) men and 135,774 (47.4%) women.
State Planning Organization Undersecretary Ali Korhan reported yesterday that according to the second part of the 2011 Population and Housing Unit Census, the number of people born in Cyprus (TRNC and South Cyprus) is 160,207. This number is 56% of the whole residents. The number of permanent residents born in Turkey is 104,641. This is 36.6% of the permanent residents of the TRNC population.

Distribution of population according to districts defined by the Second Part of the 2011 Population Census is as follows:
Lefkoşa District: total 94,824, men: 49,838 (52.6%), women: 44,986 (47.4%)
Gazimağusa District: total 69,741, men: 36,742 (52.7%), women: 32,999 (47.3%)
Girne District: total 69,163, men: 36,718 (53.1%), women: 32,445 (46.9%)
Güzelyurt District: total 30,037, men: 15,661 (52.1%), women: 14,376 (47.9%)
İskele District: total: 22,492, men: 11,524 (51.2%), women: 10,968 (48.8%)
REACTION FROM GREEK CYPRIOTS AGAINST INVITATIONS OF FAMOUS STARS TO TRNC
It has been reported that the invitations of famous stars to the TRNC for the festivals in summer caused the reaction of the Greek Cypriot side.
According to the Greek Cypriot Simerini Newspaper, Greek Cypriot Foreign Affairs Ministry has started to take action about the stars visiting the TRNC and contacted the USA Embassy in Nicosia in order to warn the Manager of these stars.
The newspaper also reported that the employees of the Greek Cypriot Foreign Affairs Ministry have already warned the related authorities about the so called ‘illegal status’ of the TRNC and overriding the rights of the Greek Cypriot Citizens. The newspaper added that recently the advertisements about the prices of TRNC hotels in a ‘famous’ travel website have also been deleted.
