Daily News of Life and times in North Cyprus goes around the world
By Margaret Sheard…….
How many readers remember those day when you were woken up by the sound of birds whistling, dogs barking and the sound of your weekend newspaper being put through the letterbox and in remembrance of those far off days for some, we are bringing you you something to read this weekend.
John Aziz Kent……..
Dear Chris and Margaret
Reading in Cyprusscene the letters Mr Richard Chamberlain wrote to UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary (click here) and the reply he has had is of very significant importance to the Turkish Cypriot people. I would strongly recommend that since Cyprusscene is the front runner in this promotion it should go one more step and send the UK’s Foreign Secretary’s department answering email to every TRNC Ministry including the President and the TC’s Minister responsible for Cyprus affairs and also the Turkish Ambassador.
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment will provide a hot air balloon festival within the scope of the Tourism Week events.
The festival is where the people and tourists can have the experience of flying in hot air balloons free of charge within the framework of the “Tourism Week” events which will be held in Lefkosa Atatürk Sport Stadium on April 22, 2017 at 16:00pm with the participation of Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu.who will be present at the Stadium.
Ataoğlu stated that they are trying to increase the tourism features in the country every day in order to develop the Northern Cyprus economy. “We think that the balloon flights will create a new tourist feature and add value to Northern Cyprus. We are inviting our people and Tourists to the first hot air balloon flights which we will provide to meet this objective”.
Last week I wrote about the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus attending the 2017 ITB Berlin Tourism Fair which is the world’s largest tourism trade fair. The companies represented at the fair include hotels, tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines and car rental companies click here.
During the course of the fair North Cyprus had an opportunity to introduce cultural, social, health and alternative tourism products to the world.
There were participants from 187 different countries in the ITB Berlin Fair. 73.6% of participants were from Europe, 8.7% from South, East and Central Asia, 5.4% from the Middle East, 7.4% from North America, 1.2% from Australia and Oceania countries and 1.2% from South and Central America.
At the close of the ITB Berlin 2017 Tourism Fair, North Cyprus was ranked in 9th place of the top 10 stands out of a total of 2,000 stands from 187 countries, which is excellent as this is the world’s largest tourism fair which covers an area of 160,000 square meters and at the closing of the fair plaques were presented to the TRNC stand.

It’s good to see that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are attending the 2017 ITB Berlin Fair which is the world’s largest tourism trade fair. The companies represented at the fair include hotels, tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines and car rental companies.
The fair runs from Wednesday 8th March until Sunday 12th March when the TRNC team of people, including a number of familiar faces, will be telling Europe and the world about the delights to be found and enjoyed in Northern Cyprus as a holiday destination.
North Cyprus is blessed with many fine sandy beaches and quiet rocky coves where you can just be at one with nature. For tourists there are very nice 4 and 5 star hotels which cater for all needs and again if you want something different there are smaller family run hotels and holiday centres where you can have fun and be part of the family to return again and again we hope.
If it’s pleasure and excitement you want, you will find that all here in Northern Cyprus with a vast array of historical centres like Salamis, Famagusta, Lefkosa and of course Kyrenia with its famous castle and harbour. For those who like to shop until they drop, there are great shopping centres here with just about every branded article you would buy in your own home town.
Restaurants and bars are plentiful for the explorers with both local and international cuisine and getting away from the slower pace of life in TRNC it’s easy, as you can hire a car, bike or perhaps just take a coach trip into the wilds. At this time of year the mountains are very lush, with orchids of so many different types in abundance.
With thanks to Mustafa Koprulu for the pictures that he has shared from Berlin and we wish the team representing the TRNC every success in promoting what we feel is the Jewel in the Mediterranean and should be on everyone’s to do list for a future holiday.

When the sun starts to shine and you can feel its warmth on your cheeks how nice it is to meet up with friends and just sit and chat and this is what I did with Meryem Ozcilem who I met way back and she was so helpful when we were writing an article about the TRNC White Card or Permanent Residency Permit for cyprusscene.
She is a very forward thinking lady with a vision of many different nationalities living together in harmony in North Cyprus and this is perhaps due to her past career experiences of helping expatriates.
Promoting tourism through the promotion of the restaurant industry has also been on her list of things to do which she has done with great success.
Many of Meryem’s Facebook friends know her for her very striking fashion photographs and also her love of creating beautiful decorative display pieces.
She also likes to cook at home and shares photographs of the many mouth watering dishes she has created.
Talking of food as we chatted, we also enjoyed breakfast and I leave it with our readers to guess who had which breakfast.

Living in Northern Cyprus as an expat is idyllic with good weather most of the year and great shopping centres with most that you would find in the European high streets. Laws and regulations take some getting used to but at the end of the day there is always something to complain about wherever you live.
Perhaps the biggest problem is language with the mother tongue being Turkish and for most of the time it’s no problem talking to people and getting what you want. We try very hard on cyprusscene and northcyprusforum the friendly forum, to spread news of life in the TRNC to a worldwide audience in English and we are slowly finding ways to share Turkish language event news so that communities here can come together to enjoy these great occasions.
Whilst not a local event, we are delighted to be able to write about the First North Cyprus Festival which will be held in the Business Design Centre in Islington, North London on Friday 5th May from 9.00am to 20.00pm and on Saturday 6th May 2017 from 9.00am to 17.00pm and entrance is free for all visitors.
This festival has been arranged by Zorlu Cezaroğlu, the director of North Cyprus UK Ltd, and through this festival it will be possible to introduce and promote not only the TRNC tourism industry but all the other sectors of the country as well.
Among the exhibitors will be hotels and resorts, tour operators, universities, private hospitals, industrialists, and construction companies that are providing services in Northern Cyprus so this is a must event to visit.
And to tempt those would be visitors further, we have added a promotional video below.
