HMAS TEAL Maritime Museum now open to visitors in Cyprus, showcasing the vessel’s history and maritime heritage.
The HMAS TEAL Maritime Museum has now opened its doors, offering visitors a fascinating look at the vessel’s history, restoration, and its enduring place in Cyprus’s maritime heritage.

 ‘HMAS TEAL Maritime Museum’ Started Accepting Visitors

The’HMAS TEAL’, which served in the Royal Navies of the United Kingdom and Australia for many years, started to accept visitors as a museum at Kyrenia Tourism Harbour. HMAS TEAL, was brought to Cyprus in 1994 and used in the practical training of the Near East University and University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculties for many years, opened its doors to visitors as the Maritime Museum in Kyrenia Tourism Port with the contributions of the Near East University and the University of Kyrenia Maritime Faculty.

NEU Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel and Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul came together at the museum, which was opened on August 1.

Maritime History and Art Under the Same Roof

The HMAS TEAL Maritime Museum, which started to host its visitors at Kyrenia Tourism Port, brings together the thousands of years of maritime heritage of the Mediterranean, Cyprus’ port history, trade routes, naval wars, fishing culture and the development of maritime technologies with rich collections.

Historical maps, archival documents, navigation devices, original maritime objects and sea-themed contemporary works of art are exhibited together in the museum. The bridge, living quarters, engine room and decks of the ship were arranged in accordance with the original and transformed into thematic exhibition areas. Thus, visitors are offered the opportunity to experience maritime history, cultural heritage and art in the same space.

Murat Şenkul: “The Maritime Museum will add value to Kyrenia”

Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul made a statement about the Maritime Museum built in Kyrenia Tourism Port and said, “On an important day like August 1, I was very happy to be at the Maritime Museum, which I believe will add significant value to our city, with the kind invitation of Dr. Suat Günsel. I especially recommend that all our schools include this project, which was implemented in the Tourism Port, in their visit programs.” said. While thanking Dr. Suat Günsel for his kind invitation, Şenkul stated that he learned that it was Dr. Günsel’s birthday during his visit to the museum and said, “On this occasion, I wish him a happy, healthy and many more years.”
