Sharing Stories Again with Cyprus and UK
Sharing Stories Again with Cyprus and UK Communities
It has been a long time since I arrived in the UK and found myself unable to continue publishing regularly on CyprusScene and our online e‑newspaper. Life changes, new responsibilities, and the realities of settling into a new country all played their part. Yet throughout this period, something remarkable has continued quietly in the background.
CyprusScene never stopped being read.
Even after 11–12 years of articles, stories, news, and community voices, thousands of visitors still come to the site every month. They read the archives and revisit old stories. They explore the history, culture, and daily life of Northern Cyprus that we captured together over more than a decade. That ongoing interest is a reminder of what CyprusScene has always been: a community platform with a long memory and a loyal readership.
But now, I feel the pull again, the need to return to publishing, to reconnect with the communities I care about, and to bridge the two places that shape my life: Northern Cyprus and the United Kingdom.
Two Countries, One Writer
Writing for two different countries is not easy. Each has its own rhythm, its own concerns, its own community stories waiting to be told. Northern Cyprus brings history, culture, and the voices of people who have followed CyprusScene for years. The UK, and especially Peterborough, brings local stories, community efforts, and the everyday experiences of the city I now call home.
Balancing both is a challenge, but it is also an opportunity.
Remembering Margaret Sheard
No reflection on CyprusScene would be complete without remembering my dear departed friend Margaret Sheard, whose dedication, warmth, and tireless
work helped shape what CyprusScene became. For years, she was not just a contributor but a guiding presence, editing, encouraging, and connecting people across communities. Her spirit remains in every story we published and in every reader who still visits the site today.
As I look ahead to the hard journey of writing again for two countries and two communities, I carry her inspiration with me, a reminder that community publishing is built on friendship, shared purpose, and love for the places we call home.
Looking Ahead
My aim now is simple: to restart publishing on CyprusScene while continuing to grow Peterborough Wide Horizons, allowing both communities to benefit from shared experiences, shared stories, and shared understanding.
It won’t be daily. It won’t be rushed. But it will be honest, steady, and rooted in the same spirit that built CyprusScene in the first place.
Thank you to everyone who continues to visit, read, and support the work we started so long ago. Your interest is the reason it’s time to begin again.
