Çatalköy-Esentepe demand better healthcare
Statement by Mayor Ceyhun Kirok
As the Mayor of Çatalköy-Esentepe, I have to once again bring up a problem that the people of our region have expressed for a long time and, unfortunately still has not been answered. Recently, the death of our esteemed artist Volkan Konak as a result of a heart attack has once again revealed how critical access to health services is.
This tragic incident makes us rethink the issue of the lack of emergency medical services.
Although the Çatalköy-Esentepe region is one of the regions with the highest hotel and bed capacity on the island, it still does not have a full-fledged health centre. Our citizens living in the region have great difficulties in accessing emergency health services and lose time for vital interventions. Although we have repeatedly stated that no concrete steps have been taken in this regard.
Aside from health care, the area’s need for police stations is also a problem that cannot be ignored. The lack of police stations, which is a great necessity in terms of both security and public order, threatens the security of our people.
From here, I ask the Ministry of Health and all relevant authorities:
1-Do all hotels have 24-hour health teams?
2-Does every hotel have an ambulance?
3-Does every hotel have a defibrillator?
I’m not curious about the answer to these questions because I know what the answer is. This is exactly why a full-fledged health center is essential in the region.
This is not just a need but a necessity from the point of view of public service. I demand that the necessary steps be taken immediately to eliminate the grievances of our people as soon as possible.
