Girne Inter-Primary Schools Basketball Festival

The Inter-Primary Schools Basketball Festival took place in a competitive atmosphere but where friendship and unity prevailed.

Organized for the first time this year in cooperation with Girne Municipality and Merit Hotels, the “Inter-Primary Schools Basketball Festival” took place with fierce competition. Held on May 8-9 at the Girne Municipality Tennis Courts, the festival saw the participation of 11 teams from 6 state primary schools within the boundaries of Girne.

With the aim of fostering a love for basketball among children, instilling team spirit, and promoting camaraderie among regional schools, all participating teams were awarded championship trophies at the end of the event, and all participating students were presented with medals. Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul and Merit Hotels Social Affairs Coordinator Mine Gürses presented the trophies to the teams, while the medals were awarded by Girne Municipality Sports Coordinator Seran Kaşif and Merit Park Hotel Public Relations Manager Devrim Metin.

The competition, which lasted for two days, took place in a festive atmosphere.   Students participated from Karşıyaka Primary School, Mustafa Çağatay Primary School, 23 April Primary School, Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School, Lapta Primary School, and Şht. Hasan Cafer Primary School.  Throughout the day, athletes and participants were treated to sandwiches, fruit, ice cream, and drinks. The event also featured a performance by the Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School Modern Dance Team, mascot shows, and music performances. It was emphasized that the hope is for this year’s inaugural event to become traditional in the coming years, evolving and expanding in scope.
