Girne Mayor Şenkul and the Old Harbour tradesmen met for a third time to discuss the problems and potential solutions concerning the old Harbour.
The meeting took place at Girne Municipality in a determined atmosphere. Girne Mayor, Murat Şenkul, along with Girne Municipality Council Members and technical/administrative staff, gathered together with the Old Harbour tradesmen and property owners. Various issues and solution proposals were discussed at the meeting. Topics such as cleaning and garbage collection hours, parking spaces for tradesmen, visitor parking areas, and implementing paid parking to prevent long-term parking were addressed.
Permanent Solution To Sewage Problem
Environmental measures supported by Girne Municipality were discussed, including converting the wells within businesses into sewer connections to prevent discharge into the sea. An agreement was reached that all businesses must have grease traps as a preventive measure against any blockages in their wells.
The meeting was considered an important step for the future and environmental sustainability of the Old Harbour, and the attendees put forward various proposals to solve the problems.

It’s time to consider park and ride facilities to remove excess traffic congestion & the need for parking in the the city centre.
Electric mini buses can be given priority and consider congestion charges. Having been in Girne 3 times for up to 1 month over the last 8 months, I see a lot of joy riders causing havoc to pedestrians. Time to make the place cleaner, safer, quieter & kinder. That will attract more family oriented tourists and bring in more revenue.
