After having a player sent off in the 43rd minute Bostancı Bağcil frustrated Esentepe with some dogged and determined defending and despite creating chances in the second half, the home side could not find that vital killer touch.
Result: ESENTEPE KKSK 0 BOSTANCI BAĞCİL SK 0
Saturday September 28, 2019: : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.
Esentepe’s limited striking options were shown up when they were unable to break the deadlock against a stubborn Bostancı side who played for 57 minutes with 10 men. With Hürkan injured Esentepe have only one recognised striker on their books (Eray Ergin) and, despite dominating the second half, these limitations were there for all to see. I think that the transfer window is closed now, so the only option maybe is to bring somebody in on loan.
On a very warm afternoon, which attracted a good size crowd the first half was a forgettable affair with neither goalkeeper being tested.
ESENTEPE KKSK v BOSTANCI BAĞCİL SK
The only incident of the half came in the 43rd minute when Bostancı defender Arda Olagoke, who had previously been booked, was red carded for a clumsy challenge on Şükrü
Bottom club Bostancı made their intentions clear from the start playing 5 across the back. After the sending off they reverted to a normal back four, four in the middle leaving lone striker Zekaı upfront.
Esentepe in the second half switched Kaan inside to partner lone striker Eray and pushed right back Mahmut further upfield as a right wing.
With left back Uğurcan constantly overlapping down the left, Esentepe were making use of the space on the wings trying to stretch the Bostancı defence.
Esentepe had a “purple patch” in a 15 minute spell and should have converted at least one of the chances they created.
50 mins: Good work on the left by Kaan slipping the ball inside to Eray, who held up his man turned and fired over the bar.
58 mins : Another good move by Esentepe saw Mahmut on the right put over a lovely cross to the far post, where Kaan stooped low to send in a header that was brilliantly tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Ahmet from point blank range.
59 mins: Another beautifully weighted cross from Mahmut saw Eray connect with it, the ball hit the inside of the near post, rolling across the line where it was hacked away.
Esentepe in this spell had dominated the match, but they were nearly caught out from a rare Bostancı breakaway.
71 mins : Esentepe gave the ball away in midfield to Otan Gün, who quickly spotted an opportunity of a quick breakaway, he passed to lone striker Zekai on the right, the Bostancı forward put in a strong shot that saw Esentepe keeper Onur spring to his left to push the shot away for a corner. This was probably the only time that Onur was called into action.
Back came Esentepe who finished strongly firstly in the 89th minute a good move on the right between Kaan and Eray set up Yakup with a close range shot was beaten away by Ahmet.
Then in injury time Esentepe hit the woodwork again when a long ball in from the left by Uğurcan found substitute Tuğrulsan and Mahmut unmarked at the far post. The ball was too in front for Tuğrulsan and fell to Mahmut whose shot struck the outside of the post.
FULL TIME SCORE : 0-0
SUMMING UP: Firstly full marks to the Bostancı defence Kemal Solkanat, Ahmet Zaılfoğlu and their Captain Cenker Pehlivan who defended like their lives depended on it.
Nothing wrong with effort put in by Esentepe, nothing wrong with the goalkeeper, defence or midfield, it is just in attack where Esentepe’s limitations are being cruelly exposed.
Why did the Coach not try putting giant defender Kağan Arslan or replacement Mustafa Kiliç upfront to give some height and strength to the attack?
Mahmut put in some great crosses ideal for a tall forward to get his head to the ball – frustration!!
ESENTEPE “MAN OF THE MATCH” — MAHMUT İZOĞLU – this season the defender has started in fine form, he is fitter and those crosses he produces need greater reward.
