President Mustafa Akıncı sent a message of congratulations to the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, and wished him success in his new term of office.
Furthermore, Akıncı said he appreciated Johnson for his sincere contribution for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem at the conferences held in Geneva and Crans Montana when he was Foreign Minister and expressed that they wish to continue cooperation for a solution in Cyprus during his new term of office as Prime Minister. Moreover, Akıncı wished improvement of relations among the British people and the Turkish Cypriot people during the Prime Ministry of Johnson.
According to the statement of the Presidency, President Akıncı congratulated Charles Michel who has been elected as the new President of the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission and David Maria Sassoli, the President of the European Parliament. In his message, Akıncı stressed that the desire of the Turkish Cypriot people for a fair and sustainable agreement continues.
Reminding that in the messages sent to the newly elected Presidents of the European Institutions, it was stressed that although the Turkish Cypriot people voted “yes” at the Annan plan referendum held in 2004 and 15 years have passed since the referendum, the status quo and the deadlock are continuing, President Akıncı pointed out that commitment of the Turkish Cypriot people for a fair and mutual acceptable agreement continues.
Akıncı also mentioned the issues of development of relations between the European institutions and the Turkish Cypriot side and representation at the European Parliament.
