Turkcell Girne Half Marathon was held with the slogan “Run for Help” and this year 223, 652TL was raised.
Following the Turkcell Girne Half Marathon which was held on 14th April 2019 with the slogan “Run for Help” with the cooperation of Girne Municipality and the TRNC Athletics Federation, the income raised was announced at a ceremony.
At the event, 101,826.50TL was donated to SOS Children’s Village Association, 101,826.50TL to Girne Adult Special Needs Rehabilitation Centre and 20,000TL to Akan Gürkan Education Foundation. The representatives of the institutions, organizations and sponsors who contributed to the Turkcell Girne Half Marathon, which was held for the second time this year, also gave gifts to the runners.
Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, in his speech at the event, said the Municipality fully undertook the organization of the marathon this year, which was more successful than the previous year. He added that last year 2,700 people registered in the marathon, and this year, 5,404 people took part in the marathon, which gave a significant increase in income, last year the amount of donations was 60,000TL and this year it increased to 223,652TL.
Güngördü thanked the marathon contestants, TRNC Athletics Federation, Northern Cyprus Turkcell, Arkin Creative Arts and Design University, Ramadan Cemil Enterprises, Grand Pasha Hotel, Magic Touch Group, Mehmet Eminoğlu Investment, Tayf LTD, First Media Institution, My Group of Companies, Atakom LTD, Civil Defence Organization Kyrenia Regional Authority, Cyprus Turkish Dietetic Association, Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association, Corporal LTD, Borucu Dairy Products, Atensa LTD, the national athlete Yiğitcan Hekimoğlu and the press.
Harun Maden, General Manager of Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell, said that they have been happy and proud to be the sponsor of the marathon for two years. Harun Maden stated that there was an increase in sponsorship, registration and income this year and thanked the participants of the marathon and the contestants.
Ramadan Cemil Business Director Işın Ramadan Cemil said that in addition to a sporting activity, the marathon is instrumental in doing good work for charity, and she believes that every year will be better. Işın Ramadan Cemil hoped that the income obtained from the successful marathon would be beneficial to the nominated institutions.
