The 1960s and 1970s are no doubt the most popular period in the history of modern music. Though Ray Charles on one side and Elvis Presley, along with The Blues and many others had ruled the music world during 1950s, the 1960s saw more and more music being produced and popularised worldwide.
The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc ruled the music world during the 1960s, and inducted a totally new form of music and music culture. Their brand of music got mixed up with the music produced a little later, through the Bee Gees, Boney M, Eagles, The Carpenters, ABBA, etc etc. During these periods the Woodstock Festival brought to light many new stars, who made their marks later on. They were all celebrities of their times.
But it was not just those musical groups only who ruled the music world and revolutionialised it. There were individual musicians, songs writers and singers, who single handedly made their mark in the music industry. They are the music icons who still hold their place, and no one can replace them. Santana, Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, are a few names, who succeeded in creating a distinct place of their own.
The revolutionary and productive 1960s and 1970s continued and later on new names constantly came up making their own place in the music history. Michael Jackson, was undoubtedly the biggest celebrity from the 1980s. Diana Ross, George Michael, Madonna, Bryan Adams, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, etc etc all brought excellent music for music lovers.
Those years were the period of big musicians, and all music lovers can name many, yet there are many other talented musicians and singers, who happened to be in the same period of time, but unfortunately could not get as much recognition among the music lovers mostly due to tough competition.
When I look back, I find many fantastic songs, which just spark into my mind, but I do not remember the names of the singers. Luckily, in present times, it is easy to find a song on youtube and its wordings and other details on other relevant sites on the internet.
For example I always liked a song which started with “Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl”. Today as I was going through youtube, all of a sudden I found this song. I went through the biography of the singer (Charlie Rich), and found out that he was a fantastic singer of his time, during 1970s and 1980s. There were many albums of him released, yet his song “The Most Beautıful Girl”, made him a well known name in the music world. His “Behind closed doors” and “A very special love song”, too are very lovely songs, which unfortunately did not get as much popularity as they deserved.
However it’s the time to listen to his songs now. Let’s start with “The most beautiful girl”.
