1461 İskele Trabzonspor finished top of their group, to earn a place in the ‘Play Off Finals” but bottom Club Tatlısu pushed them all the way, with the scoreline flattering the İskele side.
Result: 1461 İSKELE TRABZONSPOR 3 TATLISU SERACILAR SK 0
Saturday June 22 ; BTM League 2, Group 5: İskele Cumhuriyet Stadium.
Tatlısu were just expected to turn up, to be “fed to the lions” or “lambs to the slaughter”, but it did not turn out to be an easy ride for the group leaders.
Tatlısu who have had a disappointing season, finishing once again with the “wooden spoon” left it to their last match to put in their best performance of the season. Tatlısu normally a team of individuals and a defence that leaks goals like a sieve suddenly starting playing together as a team and for long periods of the match dominated it.
İskele were awarded a controversial penalty in the first half and it was only in the last 10 minutes that they played anything like group leaders, as Tatlısu tired.
A largish crowd on a very warm evening, filled the Cumhuryiet Stadium expecting an easy win to take them into the “Play Off Finals”.
“Close encounters” Iskele and Tatlisu (White strip) compete for the ball
Tatlısu were the much better team in the first half, seeing plenty of the ball but not threatening the İskele goal. When you are struggling at the bottom lady luck deserts you and this was true when İskele took the lead in the 25th minute. A corner taken on the left by Mehmet Çavadar led to a penalty as referee Mert Ercan Bulut adjudged that an İskele player was pushed in the box. Tatlısu players protested strongly, and I thought it was a very harsh decision by the referee. MEHMET ÇAVADAR sent goalkeeper Sinan the wrong way with his spot kick. 1-0.
The only other goal threat of the half was shortly before the break, following a short corner from Mehmet to Murat who cut along the byline before forcing Sinan into a good diving save at his near post. HALF TIME SCORE : 1-0
İskele were not looking like group leaders as Tatlısu continued to impress. They should have equalised in the 55th minute when Ramazan tried a long shot from just outside the box, which goalkeeper Hamıt Koç dived to his left to push the ball away. The ball fell invitingly to Göksel who should have done better but his shot was again saved by the goalkeeper.
Against the run of play İskele increased their lead when on the right REŞAT KORKMAZ beat Orhan and ran on into the box to beat Sinan. 2-0.
Still Tatlısu refused to throw in the towel as Göksel set up Ramazan whose powerful shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Hamıt Koç.
Right “come in 61” REŞAT KORKMAZ scores İskele’s second goal
In the final 10 minutes İskele awoke and started looking dangerous as the visitors tired. In injury time MURAT DELIBAŞ scored the best goal of the match breaking into the box and beating Sinan at his near post. FULL TIME SCORE: 3-0.
For İskele Final Day awaits, they can and must play better if they are to gain promotion to BTM League 1. It’s too late now for Tatlısu but they can take heart on this performance.
İSKELE TRABZONSPOR ” Man of the Match” SERKAN ÖĞÜT – the veteran defender and Captain had a strong game in defence.
TATLISU SERACILAR “Man of the Match” – I could pick a number of players, Murat, Soner, Ramazan all had good matches but defender ORHAN YALÇIN shaded it with a solid performance shoring up his teams normally leaky defence.
