From Richard Chamberlain….
75th Anniversary 1944 – 2019
Last year my wife Weng and I joined Chris Elliott and Margaret Sheard from CyprusScene for the annual Army Benevolent Fund Charity Concert but as they had a prior commitment this year, we attended the 75th anniversary event on our own and made new friends on the table we shared.
Approximately 400 people attended the Spring Charity Concert at Shakespeare House, Nicosia, in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund, The Soldiers Charity (formerly the Army Benevolent Fund), which has been going strong since 2002.
ABF carries out fantastic work supporting soldiers, veterans and their immediate families, including those who have served here in Cyprus.
This year we were privileged to welcome the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and the Akrotiri Military Wives Choir.
Among the guests was Bob Howard, a WW2 D Day veteran who was presented with a plaque by the Commander of the British Forces in Cyprus Major General James Illingworth.
It was a wonderful event, very well organised and in such a lovely setting in the grounds of Shakespeare House.
Long may it continue.
