The first match of the “relegation play offs” was played on a red hot afternoon with red hot temperatures and red hot tempers on and off the field. Esentepe blew a gasket and now face an even harder uphill task to hold onto their Super League place.
Result : KUCUK KAYMAKLI TSK 4 ESENTEPE KKSK 0
Wednesday May 15, 2019: K-Pet Super League Relegation Play-Off: Cihangir Stadı.
With this match being played on a boiling hot afternoon, it eventually spilt over in the 59th minute when both teams saw red. With this match being shown live on BRT Sport it was not a good advert and a shame that this incident spoiled the match.
The events that made it happen initially involved Esentepe’s Sükrü and K. Kaymaklı Bahadir The two tussled on the left hand touchline, right in front of the main stand and the cameras. Bahadir clearly aimed and connected with a kick at Sükrü which incensed the Esentepe players and their fans. Esentepe surrounded referee Mehmet Sezener imploring him to send off Bahadir by using the card signal which has unfortunately crept into football. They surrounded the Linesman Mr Necmi Bulut who really had a “bird’s eye view”. I even saw the kick clearly myself and I am blind as a bat !. Mr Sezener remained unmoved, both sets of players started pushing and shoving, even Esentepe Coach Hasan Çağer ran onto the pitch to put his twopenny worth in, again not the done thing.
Tempers reach boiling point
K. KaymaklI Rifat grabbed Kaan round the neck, and Kaan reacted himself, so did Mr Sezener by producing a red card and sending off both players After the match I saw the marks round Kaan’s neck, no wonder his temper went. Yet Bahadir being the original culprit remained on the field and really it should have been Kaymaklı down to 10 players. Not for the first time this season Esentepe seemed to be on the wrong end of some appalling errors by the Officials.
Esentepe players continued to protest, Esentepe supporters were on the fence presumably hurling abuse at the linesman. The match was held up for at least 10 minutes before it restarted again, but the heat and the passion had been taken out of the game.
Would the correct decision made make any difference to the result if K.Kaymakli were reduced to 10 men and Esentepe had 11 players remaining on the field. No Esentepe were poor, their limited squad and resources were shown up.
Once again as with most Super League teams, K. Kaymaklı African players were the most influential players on the field. John Bello their tall striker helped himself to 2 goals and was a handful all afternoon. In midfield and attack Paul Asare showed plenty of skill and a fine turn of speed. In midfield Tamen, a Michael Eissen look-alike, played in the same style as the Ex Chelsea star.
Esentepe created only 2 chances all through the match, the first came in the first minute, when Efosa won possession passed left to Kaan who sent in a good cross, that unfortunately Yakup fired over from a great position.
Red hot actıon- Esentepe in red
Their only other chance came in the 43rd minute when teenager Sükrü was put through but hesitated allowing defender Bahardır to deflect his shot and into the arms of goalkeeper Efe.
Esentepe have to thank their inexperienced goalkeeper ONUR who is carrying an injury, time and time again he saved Esentepe despite having limited mobility. He put his injured body on the line, without him the score could well have been 6 or 7-0. Onur deputy Kurşat, again inexperienced, is carrying an injury himself – very worrying times for Esentepe.
It is easy to criticise Esentepe but I am not, I know it was the same for both teams but the hot weather was a factor and it did affect Esentepe performance.
Apart from Onur I thought Esentepe Captain Şahin did his utmost making some fine tackles and interceptions.
With K. Kaymaklı and Baf Ülkü Yurdu both winning their matches it looks like it will be either Binatlı or Esentepe who will be fighting it out for survival.
Kaan will probably miss both remaining play off matches after his sending off, but at least a little bit of good news, top goalscorer Junior will be available after serving a 3 match suspension.
KÜÇÜK KAYMAKLI SCORERS: MEHMET KOYUNCU (26), PAUL ASARE (53), JOHN EVOR BELLO (88 + 90+4)
