In the Red Group the game between the second and third place teams ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw (see match report below). Leaders Görneç took advantage winning 2-0 at Dipkarpaz thanks to a brace of goals from ARDA ÖZKAN taking his tally of the season to 16.

Next Sunday Görneç play Vadili which could well decide the Championship.

In the White Group Karaoğlanoğlu won 1-0 against Zürütköy keeping them 4 points ahead of their nearest rivals Lapta.

TCB SK GREAT EXPECTATIONS ! – A LET DOWN

On a brilliant warm Saturday afternoon, on paper a match between second placed Dörtyol and third place Vadili at the top of the BTM Red Group looked to be an exciting prospect. However in reality with the match at stake the match turned out to be a disappointment.

Result : VADİLİ TCB SK 0 DÖRTYOL SK 0

Saturday March 9 : BTM League Red Group : Vadili 14 Ağustos Stadı

The 14 Ağustos Stadı was packed to the rafters, hard to estimate the attendance maybe 400-500 which is more than some Super League and League 1 clubs get. Dörtyol bussed in a couple of coaches and they soon made their presence felt, Vadili fans provided the noise with drums and the dreaded Vuvuzela. The atmosphere was electric it was a shame there was no spark on the playing field.

The pitch has not improved since the last time I was here, it looked like a herd of cattle has been grazing on it! it was threadbare in places, bumpy with an uneven bounce, maybe this is what caused the match to be such a disappointment.

Dörtyol (in green) on the attack

With this match ending in a draw it was League leaders Görneç who benefitted they won 2-0 at Dıpkarpaz and are now 2 points ahead of Dörtyol with three matches to play.

There were some robust challenges at the beginning of the match, the game was simmering on the field it could have boiled over at any time, which may have spilled onto the terraces. The fact it did not was down to referee Fatih Bardakçıoğlu who I thought had an excellent game, cool and calm with his decisions.

The first half was dominated by Dörtyol, Vadili did not trouble the visitors defence once.

After 6 minutes Dörtyol’s Ibrahim Çelik sent in a shot from just outside the area that the Vadili goalkeeper Ilhan dived to save,

10 mins : It was all Dörtyol Faruk was put through but his shot was blocked by the advancing Ilhan.

27 mins : Another Dörtyol attack ended with Ibrahim Çelik running on into the box on the right but the striker screwed his shot disappointingly wide. HALF TIME SCORE – 0-0

There was more urgency in Vadili play but the match continued to be a disappointment with two strong defences cancelling out both teams attacks.

Dörtyol much vaunted attack were well held now by the Vadili defence where Captain Umut Menteş was outstanding. Likewise for Dörtyol where Mustafa’s Güner and Ali Arslan snubbed out Vadili leading goal scorer Uğur Ökeli.

Vadılı had the ball in the Dörtyol net through substitute Serdar but it was ruled out for offside.

Vadılı also had a penalty appeal turned down in injury time when Atakan went to ground in the box but referee Fatih correctly waved play on. FULL TIME SCORE : 0-0
