Mağusa much too strong for Ozanköy

By Richard Beale ….

Second in League 1 played second in the Super League and in the end the difference in class told and Ozanköy have a very steep mountain to climb in the second leg if they want to remain in the Kıbrıs Cup.

Wednesday March 6 : Kıbrıs Cup Quarter Final 1st Leg : Mustafa Özkayım Stadı

A very disappointing crowd attended this match on a reasonable sunny spring afternoon. In the past Ozanköy have attracted some Expat support but sadly today it look liked none were in evidence.

It was no disgrace for Ozanköy to lose to such illustrious opponents as Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG). Ozanköy are having a good season, they are a decent League 1 side, MTG are a huge rich Club which has spent heavily in the transfer market. They have three very good forwards in African players Dino Peter, Thank god Peter, and Michael Odibe, all are very talented and physically strong. On top of that they signed during the summer last season’s Super League leading goalscorer Uğur Gök. They ooze class and talent throughout the side, and really only the current Champions and leaders Yenicamı can compete with them.

Ozanköy did well to hold their powerful opponents to 1-1 at the interval, but in the second half MTG moved up a gear and overwhelmed their opponents. To be honest I think MTG had a few gears in reserve, such was their superiority.

The Ozanköy pitch had suffered as many have in the winter rains, it was reasonably free of mud though but was bumpy in places, MTG took a while to adjust to it.

7 Mins : Ozanköy took the lead from the penalty spot after their striker Bekir was brought down in the box by MTG Captain Yasin Kurt. SAYDAM SOY sent MTG goalkeeper Yusuf the wrong way with his penalty kick. 1-0

15 mins : MTG equalised when Dino Peter on the left made a dazzling run before sending over a low cross to UĞUR GÖK to shoot home 1-1

45 mins : MTG should have taken the lead when a long ball from Dino Peter found Uğur who blazed widely over the bar. HALF TIME SCORE: 1-1

70 mins ; Sadık did well on the right to gain possession of the ball before cutting inside and passing to Uğur whose close range shot was blocked, it rebounded to DINO PETER who made no mistake with his shot. 1-2

78 mins: Replacement Peter Thank God Ebi provided the pass that gave SADIK BALARABE the opportunity to increase MTG lead. 1-3

84 mins : A long clearance found Dino Peter and Sadık, both bearing down on goal, the latter passed to DINO PETER who had the simple task of scoring his second goal of the match. FULL TIME SCORE : 1-4
