The final matches of the KTSYD Handball Cup hosted by Cyprus International University (CIU) in cooperation with the TRNC Handball Federation, the Prime Minister’s Anti-Drugs Commission and the Turkish Cypriot Sports Writers Association (CTSWA) took place at the CIU Arena Sports Complex.
According to the information released to press on 29th January 2019, by the University, the CTSWA Handball Cup was organized under the title “Tut Elimi Projesi (Hold My Hand Project)”, which was conducted by the Handball Federation, in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Anti-Drug Commission. The project aimed to create awareness and encourage the expansion of handball in Turkey and other countries, and help athletes to be able to compete at international competitions.
In the final match, Mensur Sinanaoviç, Bosnia and Herzegovina Handball Federation President and Bosnia and Herzegovina Minister of Education, Bahadır Ayhan Yüksel, Cyprus Handball Federation President, Hakan Gümüşsoy, Turkey Handball Federation Board Member and Women’s National Team Officer, and Barbaros Yılmaz, Turkey Handball Federation Central Arbitration Committee Chairman were present.
The women’s final between CIU and NEU of the CTSWA was played at the CIU Arena with the support of Telsim. CIU won the final with a score of 24-23 to become champions. In the men’s category, in the match between Gençlik Gücü (GG) and CIU, GG won with a score of 32-27.
Tarkan Kayaş, Acting Director of Sports Affairs of CIU said that the CIU Arena Sports Complex has always supported large-scale projects like this that create awareness. Kayaş said they were proud to be chosen for such events to be held in the CIU Arena and congratulated all the teams on their performances.
