Aydın Denktaş was laid to rest
The wife of the Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş and mother of the Finance Minister Serdar Denktaş was laid to rest yesterday (4th February).
The funeral prayers were performed at the Selimiye Mosque in Lefkoşa for Aydın Denktaş, following which she was laid to rest at the Lefkoşa Cemetery.
Emphasis on political equality from Akıncı to Lute
Presidential Spokesman Barış Burcu made a statement regarding President Mustafa Akıncı’s two meetings with the UN Secretary General’s Temporary Envoy on Cyprus Jane Holl Lute on the 3rd and 4th February.
Burcu said that President Akıncı discussed with Lute whether there was common ground between the two sides that would make meaningful sense of resuming negotiations with a result-oriented negotiation process.
Stating that President Akıncı noted that the political equality of the Turkish Cypriot side was a sine qua non for a solution and gave some examples at the meeting on 4th February, Burcu added: “In the meantime, our President underlined that taking steps back from the consensuses, especially in the political equality reached up to today, will not serve the beginning of the process.”
