Uluçay speaks at TÜRKPA meeting
The Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Teberrüken Uluçay gave a speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TÜRKPA) in Izmir. Uluçay attended the meeting as a guest of the President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Binali Yıldırım.
In his speech, stressing that the Greek Cypriot Administration does not exhibit a serious attitude to end the negotiations which have been continuing for 50 years and to reach peace in Cyprus, Uluçay said that the Greek Cypriot side lacks the political will which is needed for a solution in Cyprus.
Pointing out that it is also a regional necessity to call on the Greek Cypriot side to have common sense, Uluçay said that the status quo in the Greek Cypriot side is not sustainable and the uncompromising policy of the Greek Cypriot side has some risks not only for the island but also for the region. Uluçay also underlined that it is the responsibility of the whole international community to convey this reality to the Greek Cypriot side.
Erhürman: “Anastasiades has not yet been able to accept that political equality means sharing authority and responsibilities and managing together”
Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman stated on the Cyprus issue that regarding the decades-long negotiations Mr. Anastasiades has not yet been able to accept that political equality means sharing authority and responsibilities and managing together.
Speaking at an event he attended, Prime Minister, CTP Leader, Tufan Erhürman also touched upon the recent developments in the Cyprus problem and said:
“Developments are clearly showing us something. Mr. Anastasiades is confused about the political equality of the Turkish Cypriots. His recent statements show that Anastasiades has not yet been able to accept that political equality means sharing authority and responsibilities and managing together.
He tries to pass the powers to the constituent states and get rid of the headache. There cannot be a form of government in which the will of Turkish Cypriots will not be reflected in the decisions. Such a form of government cannot provide the functional state structure that he says he wants. The two equal communities will establish and manage the federation together. These two communities will share all powers and responsibilities. The state is sustainable and functional as long as it reflects the will of the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots. A model that excludes the will of any community cannot be sustainable and functional”.
Turkish Foreign Ministry: “Exploratory drilling by Exxon Mobil is not helping regional stability”
Spokesman of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hami Aksoy said that exploratory drilling by Exxon Mobil around the island of Cyprus does not contribute to the stability of the region.
In response to a question Aksoy stated ‘Exxon Mobil’s initiation of a natural gas search in the so-called 10th parcel given by the Greek Cypriot Administration off the island of Cyprus does not contribute to the stability of the region. It might also change certain fragile balances for the solving of the Cyprus problem and added that they had warned the Greek Cypriot Administration that the natural resources around the island does not only belong to the Greek Cypriot Administration and to stop the unilateral hydrocarbon facilities in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Aksoy also repeated the warning to energy companies about the Greek Cypriot’s unilateral exploration and extraction. Aksoy also underlined that they will continue to take necessary diplomatic and political steps in coordination with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with a view to protecting the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot People as the equal owners of the Island, stemming from international law and added ‘we will start activities in the areas licensed by the Turkish Cypriots to Turkish Petroleum in addition to our continental shelf’.
