KISMET by Turkish Cypriots, nominated for Audience Award image

“KISMET”, a short film produced by Turkish Cypriots has been nominated for the Audience Award by ‘Leeds International Film Festival’, a qualifying film festival for the OSCARS and BAFTA Awards.

For the first time, a Turkish Cypriot made short film has made it to the official selection list of a festival accredited by the OSCARS and BAFTA Awards.

According to the information provided by the Eastern Mediterranean University, the film has been co-directed by Doğuş Özokutan, a graduate student at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design, and Vasvi Çiftçioğlu, a doctorate student at the Faculty of Communication of the University.

Kısmet surpassed four thousand world-wide applications made to the Leeds International Film Festival and managed to get a spot among the 13 films nominated for the Audience Award. The visual effects of Kısmet, shot under the sponsorship of EMU, were completed in EMU. The film’s visual effects were by Fırat Tüzünkan, Vice-Chair at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design (VACD).
