Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ of Cyprus International University is working on an important project, entitled   “Nutrition Habits and Determination of Nutritional Status of Adult Individuals in the 19-65 Age Group Living in the Nicosia Region.”

Dr. Dağ explained that it is a comprehensive research project on nutrition habits of adult individuals at the 19-65 age groups living in Nicosia Region.

First of all for the project,  people from the ages of 19-65 were interviewed and the demographic characteristics were determined and nutrition habits were examined. Ayhan Dağ stated that within the scope of the project, they established if individuals eat outside the house and if they do what kind of food they prefer. In this way they examined the frequency and quantity of food consumption and whether there is an inadequacy in the intake of macro and micro nutrients.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ also stated that physical activity levels of the individuals have been evaluated.  He said that the anthropometric measurements (height, weight, waist, hip, body weight index) of the individuals were measured and nutritional consumption, nutritional habits and physical activity levels obtained from these measurements were evaluated separately in male and female individuals.

Within the scope of the project, the questionnaires have been completed but the work is in progress so the data analysis has not yet been completed. Assist. Prof. Dr. Dağ said the data obtained from these projects will be compared to the data from the World Health Organization and Turkey Nutrition and Health Survey (TBSA 2010).

Assist. Prof. Dr. Dağ said the project is conducted by Prof. Dr. Metin Saip Sürücüoğlu, Prof. Dr. Seyit Mehmet Mercanlıgil, Instructor Nazife Hürer and Research Assistant Deniz Rojina Aygül.
