TRNC Environmental Noise Assessment and Management Regulations

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment are monitoring facilities and businesses that produce noise in the activities that they carry out, including entertainment places with music, and aim to take the necessary precautions to ensure that the people who are exposed to a noisy environment do not have their physical and mental health harmed with their peace and quiet being disturbed.

Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoglu said that they had to take precautions by explaining all the factors that would adversely affect the quality of life of our people.

Ataoğlu said, “The negative effects of environmental noise on human health are accepted. When we look at the profiles and audits of incoming complaints, we have found that no action has been taken to prevent noise pollution in enterprises with serious noise sources near sensitive areas. All businesses wishing to open a workplace will be examined in terms of environmental noise sources, and environmental noise measurements will be made on the source. In the case of exceeding the limit values stated in the Environmental Noise Assessment and Management Regulation, the Environmental Protection Agency will take measures in this respect.

The audits conducted under the new Regulation include monetary penalties in respect of violations, as well as the suspension of music permits from three weeks to three months.
