The TRNC participated in the General Assembly 2018 meeting of Cittaslow (Slow City), an international network of 236 municipalities from 30 different countries, which was held in France.

With the contributions of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and the participation of 160 representatives of Cittaslow from different countries of the world the 2018 General Assembly was held in the city of Mirande, France, between 21-24 June 2018.

Cittaslow Tourism, social projects, use of renewable energy and the importance of natural agricultural production were included in the statement to the General Assembly by the TRNC Cittaslow Technical Coordinator Hasan Karlıtaş.

The Cittaslow Movement, was established in Italy in 1999, and has spread to different countries of the world in a short time. The TRNC Municipalities of Yeniboğaziçi, Lefke, Mehmetçik and Geçitkale are now members and the Ministry is working to enter more Municipalities each year.  Tourism and Environment Minister, Fikri Ataoglu, noted that these steps are very positive for the development of the country’s tourism.

Minister Ataoglu expressed their support for the work of Cittaslow, emphasizing that they are working towards holding the Cittaslow General Assembly meeting in the TRNC in the future.
