A visit to Basin-Sen, Lefkosa

By Chris Elliott……..

Being a member of Basin-Sen, when Margaret and I were in Lefkosa this week we had a little time to spare so we drove down to the historic  Arabahmet quarter and walked through the narrow lanes as I wanted to visit the office of Basin-Sen (press workers union)  to bring my subscriptions up to date.

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by a number of people who were gathering for a meeting.

Among these people were Basin Sen – President, Ali Kişmir, Organization Secretary, Çağdaş Öğüç, Ali Kurtoğlu, International Relations Secretary, Deniz Abidin, Finance Secretary and when I told them who we were they said you are CyprusScene and were warmly appreciative of our English language activities about North Cyprus on our website and our new Enewspaper and we were encouraged to form closer links with them to share other news.

L to R Deniz Abidin – Finance Secretary, Minister Zeki Çeler, Ali Kişmir – President,  Ali Kurtoğlu – International Relations Secretary, Çağdaş Öğüç – Organisation Secretary.

Whilst we were sitting having coffee another person arrived for the meeting and he was the new TRNC Minister of Labour and Social Security, Zeki Çeler and he came and greeted us and reminded us of  when we had met him at GIGEM (Kyrenia Youth and Resource Centre) Ideas Meeting on 25th July 2017. It’s great how you can meet so many nice people by chance and we were delighted to also publish an account of Zeki Çeler’s meeting with Basin-Sen which you can read by clicking here
