President Mustafa Akıncı this week received Andrea Cavallari, newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to Nicosia.

Akıncı gave a briefing to Ambassador Cavallari, who paid a courtesy visit to discuss the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the collapse of talks in Crans-Montana last year.

President Akıncı also conveyed the tension created by the unilateral steps taken by the Greek Cypriot side on natural gas research in the Mediterranean and the Exclusive Economic Zone, as well as the anxiety felt by the Turkish Cypriot side over these issues.

Akıncı also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
