The coal mines operating in the Güzelyurt region, are now being demolished under the control of the Environmental Protection Agency, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
The Council of Ministers arranged for the demolition of coal mines within the framework of the decision of organisations in respect of the damage to the environment and destruction of nature.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, has been in the process of having talks with the people of the region, as well as the operators and as a result of the negotiations demolition studies that started in and around the area will continue.
Following the demolition work, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment will be working on a new system in which coal mines will be operated in a new location.
The coal mining operators said they wanted to carry out this work in a controlled and conscientious manner and said they were satisfied with reaching a permanent solution to this issue after meeting Minister Ataoglu.
