Last Sunday the 1st of October 2017, at the beautiful sports ground of Bellapais, The Gentlemen of Girne and Near East University faced each other in the 2017 Creditwest Autumn Cricket League.
The Near East University Captain Masroor Ahmed having won the toss, invited the Gentlemen of Girne to bat first. It was clearly not an impressive start from the Gentleman, as they were 3 wickets down for 13 runs.. Once again the captain of the Gentlemen, Danish Afridi, came to rescue his team and scored 31 runs, with the help of 3 sixes, and 2 fours. At the other end of the crease a new young talented player Adnan Khan held the wicket and scored 12 runs.
Finally the Gentlemen succeeded in setting a 97 runs target for NEU, with help from Shahzad Malik who scored a much needed 23 runs, with 2 sixes and 2 fours.
In reply to 97 runs, the confident NEU team made a very weak start, and were 2 wickets down for 2 runs and none of NEU remaining batsmen put up any firm resistance and NEU were all out on 23 runs. Gentlemen celebrated their first victory in the Creditwest Autumn Cricket League 2017.
The Second Match of Creditwest Autumn cricket league was between Star Cricket Club Lefkosa and Ozankoy Cricket Club.
Star Cricket Club captain Muhammad Fahad won the toss and elected to bat first. The SCC made a very strong start but were 5 wickets down on 62 runs, in 11 overs. With the help of Shaka’s 29 runs the SSC was successful and scored 123 runs against Ozankoy.
In reply to 123 runs, Ozankoy made a very decent start and made 67 runs in 9 overs, for the loss of 3 wickets and Ozankoy sealed their first victory, when Muhammad Usman made 38 runs and Manaf made 21 runs scored in the Creditwest Autumn Cricket League with Ozankoy winning by 4 wickets.
Next Sunday the 8th October, 1st match between Ozankoy Cricket Club vs Lapta Eleven 09:30am and 2nd match between Near East University vs Lefkosa Rising Stars 13:00pm at Bellapais.
