By Chris Elliott…….

It’s good to see that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are attending the 2017 ITB Berlin Fair which is the world’s largest tourism trade fair. The companies represented at the fair include hotels, tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines and car rental companies.

The fair runs from Wednesday 8th March until Sunday 12th March when the TRNC team of people, including a number of familiar faces, will be telling Europe and the world about the delights to be found and enjoyed in Northern Cyprus as a holiday destination.

North Cyprus is blessed with many fine sandy beaches and quiet rocky coves where you can just be at one with nature. For tourists there are very nice 4 and 5 star hotels which cater for all needs and again if you want something different there are smaller family run hotels and holiday centres where you can have fun and be part of the family to return again and again we hope.

If it’s pleasure and excitement you want, you will find that all here in Northern Cyprus with a vast array of historical centres like Salamis, Famagusta, Lefkosa and of course Kyrenia with its famous castle and harbour. For those who like to shop until they drop, there are great shopping centres here with just about every branded article you would buy in your own home town.

Restaurants and bars are plentiful for the explorers with both local and international cuisine and getting away from the slower pace of life in TRNC  it’s easy, as you can hire a car, bike or perhaps just take a coach trip into the wilds.  At this time of year the mountains are very lush,  with orchids of so many different types in abundance.

With thanks to Mustafa Koprulu for the pictures that he has shared from Berlin and we wish the team representing the TRNC every success in promoting what we feel is the Jewel in the Mediterranean and should be on everyone’s to do list for a future holiday.

  1. Dear Chris Elliott and Margaret Sheard,

I am delighted to read your article on the promotion of TRNC Tourism by the Northern Cyprus Ministry of Tourism at the 2017 ITB Berlin Fair.

You also wrote a fine promotional article recently about the 2017 First North Cyprus Festival to be held in London on the 4th and 5th of May and it is sad that more exposure of this event in the English language has not been made.

Any publicity you give for Tourism is highly appreciated by the TRNC Hoteliers Association for which I thank you as the Honorary President, but I would suggest you must develop closer working cooperation with the TRNC Ministry of Tourism especially the Under-Secretary, Mr Ismet Esenyel, as he will welcome your expertise of marketing and advertising Tourism in the English language to a worldwide readership which is so very important if we are to renew the UK tourist market and attract tourists from other English speaking countries.

North Cyprus Tourism was very prominent in the British Press during my active years when we had the top people coming here and also over 65 travel agents which were ABTA Members with ATOL licences from the UK authorities.

The attendance of the TRNC at the 2017 ITB Berlin Fair is of a great importance but the UK market is crucial for tourism for Northern Cyprus especially with 350,000 Cypriot Turkish people living there, so your expertise can be of great help to our Tourism Ministry especially the publicity in the English language for English speakers be they Cypriot Turkish people living in the Diaspora around the world or other readers of cyprusscene.

I would like to add my thanks to the TRNC Ministry of Tourism and their staff and associates for promoting and marketing the value and historical beauty of Northern Cyprus as a leading tourist destination.

    Kind Regards

    John Aziz Kent
Honorary President of TRNC Hoteliers Association

    1. Thank you John for your kind words and support which makes a lot of difference to us when we are working hard to promote Northern Cyprus and its people.
