
Eide to meet with leaders to put negotiations on track again
The UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser to Cyprus Espen Barth Eide is expected to meet with the two leaders separately following the halt to negotiations.
According to information received from UN Cyprus Peacekeeping Forces Press Spokesman Aleem Siddique, Eide met with the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades at 11am this morning.
Eide is expected to meet with President Mustafa Akıncı at 10am tomorrow morning. Eide will also meet with the leaders of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties today and tomorrow.
Eide is expected to leave the island on Sunday, 5 March, 2017.
President Akıncı receives ECO Secretary-General Akça
President Mustafa Akıncı, who has been in Islamabad this week, yesterday received the Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Halil İbrahim Akça.
At the reception, Akıncı and Akça discussed the ways in which to develop the relations between the TRNC, an observer member, and the organization. ECO Secretary-General Akça presented a plaque to President Akıncı.
President Akıncı also visited the TRNC Islamabad Representative Office yesterday. He will return to the TRNC today at 15.10, holding a press conference at Ercan Airport on his visit to Pakistan.
TRNC First Lady Meral Akıncı, represented the TRNC at a conference on women’s development hosted by Pakistan Prime Minister Navaz Serif’s spouse, Begüm Kalsum Navaz, and organised by Benazir Income Support Programme. Topics of discussion included projects that aim to secure economic independence for women by providing job opportunities, and projects related to girls’ education.
Atun visits Gulfood Food and Drink Fair in Dubai
Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun visited “Gulfood Food and Drink Fair” in Dubai this week, one of the three most important food fairs in the world, where 11 food producers participated from the TRNC.
Organisation of stands and overall coordination of the fair was carried out by the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry (KTSO). Mainly hellim, dairy products and other foods such as ice cream, frozen dough products, coffee, halva and tahini were showcased in the 120 square meters stand area.
At the meeting held between KTSO Trade Fairs Coordinator Çağlar Türk and Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun, Türk said that the organisation had made the necessary applications for further enlargement of the area allocated to companies from the TRNC.
This year, the Gulfood Food and Drink Fair in Dubai was attended by more than 5,000 people from 150 countries in the 120,000 square metre area. The fair has been visited by around 150,000 professionals.
EMU participates in the 7th General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World
EMU has attended the 7th General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco.
Topics of discussion on the conference agenda included the ways of promoting cooperation and coordination among member universities, and providing a sustainable funding mechanism for the universities.
